“True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness. True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are.”

― Brené Brown

What if belonging isn’t something we earn, but something we practice?

Belonging begins beneath the roles we play and the ways we have learned to protect ourselves. It unfolds as we turn toward ourselves with curiosity, tenderness, and respect.

Rooted In Belonging weaves conscious movement, breathwork, mudra, loving-kindness, somatic awareness, and relational inquiry within the container of sacred community. Together we explore how transformation moves through us, between us, and out into the wider web of life.

This is an invitation to meet what feels tender, reactive, guarded, or afraid — not by turning away, but by turning toward it with compassion. To listen more closely to the wisdom of the body. To recognize the patterns that once helped us feel safe, and to discover new possibilities for how we might be in relationship: with ourselves, with one another, and with the more-than-human world.

Within the circle there is room for courage and vulnerability, for boundaries and connection, for stillness and movement — and, importantly, for laughter and joy.

What makes Rooted In Belonging different?

It doesn't ask you to optimize or become a better version of yourself. Belonging here is relational, embodied, and ecological — something that happens between us, in our bodies, and within the living world we were never separate from.

We create space to remember something simple and profound: belonging is not something we earn. It is something we practicelearning again how to feel it, how to trust it, how to live from it. Not because we are building something new, but because it is already alive in us.

Rooted in Belonging

This is designed for you if...

  • You’re moving through a life of transitions and transformations

  • You long for authentic community where you feel seen, held and witnessed

  • You’re ready to reclaim both your personal and collective power in a space that honors intuition, truth and vulnerability

  • You crave a place to rest, reflect, and reconnect with yourself after years of caring for others.

  • You’re willing to soften into imagination, playfulness and possibility, to lighten the emotional load, and remember that you don’t have to carry it all alone

You will explore ways to...

  • Recognize your patterns — Become aware of the ways you adapt, withdraw, overextend, or disappear in order to feel safe or connected.

  • Stay connected without abandoning yourself — Practice boundaries, self-compassion, and embodied choice in relationship.

  • Come home to yourself — Notice what helps you feel grounded, present, and connected to your own experience.

  • Participate in community differently — Explore what it means not only to receive belonging, but to help create spaces where others can belong, too.

Facilitated by Shedeka Marriott

Founder of  Soma Sadhana Yoga Therapy and Well-being LLC, LMSW, Certified Yoga Therapist

(C-IAYT) and longtime teacher of yoga and meditation.

Shedeka's work lives at the intersection of inner experience and lived relationship, the places where body, heart, mind, and the world around us meet and shape who we are. Drawing from Yoga Therapy, Buddhist psychology, mindfulness, somatic practices, and earth-connected traditions, she creates spaces to slow down, listen inwardly, and reconnect with what matters.

Through her own seasons of transition, practice has taught her that threshold moments are not simply moments of uncertainty or change, but they are invitations to remember what is already here and alive within us. And that we do not have to navigate these thresholds alone, or have the answers before we begin.

Rooted in Belonging grew from that remembering.

Her hope is not that you leave these eight weeks with everything figured out.

Her hope is that you leave knowing how to return.

What to Expect

Rooted in Belonging Experience, Week-by-week

01

Week

Remembering Home

Before we can explore belonging with others, we begin by arriving—with ourselves. What does it mean to belong to ourselves? In our first week, we slow down enough to tend to ourselves.

Core practice: Orienting + grounding

02

Week

Body as GPS

The body becomes our first home. It is an entry point. We begin where every creature begins: by looking around. Before belonging is a feeling, it is a physiological state, and this week we settle stress physiology through grounding movement, a longer exhale, and orienting practice.

Core practice: Somatic awareness, grounding, breath, conscious movement

03

Week

Wise Heart

Belonging begins with how we relate to ourselves. This week moves from inhabiting the body toward befriending ourselves. Through supported heart-opening movement, compassion, metta, tenderness, grief, receiving, and the possibility of holding ourselves with less judgment.

Core practice: Heart-centered breath + loving-kindness + compassion

04

Week

The Mind of Belonging

Notice the stories that shape your sense of who you are—and where you belong. Our minds are constantly making meaning. The heart is about how we relate. The mind is about how we make meaning. Together we'll explore the stories, beliefs, and assumptions that can create a sense of separation.
Core practice: Mindfulness of thoughts, mantra, inquiry, contemplative journaling.

05

Week

Remembering the Village

Belonging is relational. This week we'll explore authenticity, boundaries, reciprocity, being witnessed, receiving support, and the courage to be known. We'll look honestly at the ways we sometimes abandon ourselves to maintain connection—and begin exploring another possibility without self-abandonment.
Core practice: Relational mindfulness + boundaries + witnessing

06

Week

Belonging to the more-than-human World

You are part of nature, not separate from it. Together, we'll explore interdependence, reciprocity, seasonal rhythms, the elements, and our relationship with the more-than-human world. Through nature-based practices, we'll slow down enough to notice the living web that has always been holding us. You'll be invited to experience belonging as something ecological—not just personal.
Core practice: Sit spot, walking meditation, sensory awareness, elemental practice

07

Integration: Rituals of Return

Belonging lives in the space between us. We'll explore interdependence—the truth that our well-being is shaped by the people, places, communities, ecosystems, and relationships we're part of. You'll begin to see belonging not only as something that happens inside you, but as something that emerges between you and the world around you. This is where the practice deepens.

Core practice: A five-anchor embodied practice

Week

08

Integration: Living Rooted

Belonging isn't where we arrive. It's how we live. We've explored belonging through your Body, Heart, Mind, Relationships, and connection with Nature. This week, we'll bring those threads together in how we move, speak, rest, relate, work, parent, lead, create, and participate?

Core practice: Closing ritual + embodied integration
